Stupid Scotties?

Wait! Before you all bite my head off... Let me explain!

The other day, out of curiosity my Human was filling out one of those "What Sort of Dog Should I Get?" quizzes. Which for reasons unknown to either of us,  did not tell her she should have a Scottie, but suggested some doggy called a Schipperke...

Anyway, when she was done, she read the site's description of Scotties.

We were both taken-a-back by what it said... to say the least!!
Scottish Terrier Size: Medium. Large.
Coat: Bristly. Wavy/Wiry.
Coat length: Medium.
Grooming: Easy, low-maintenance.
Unlikely to drool.
Moderate shedding.
Very low activity level.
Lowest intelligence.
Tolerates other pets fairly well.
Wary of strangers.
Good with kids four and up.
Rather affectionate.
Moderately independent.
Fairly vocal.
Somewhat longer than average estimated lifespan.
Somewhat harder than average to train.

DESPITE the glaringly obvious ERROR... There were a few things that had me raising my fuzzy little eyebrows...

I wouldn't really ever use the words "easy" or "low-maintenance" to describe the grooming needs of a Scottie...

Nor would I ever describe my activity levels as "very low"... Why, right before I sat down to write this post, wearing my usual reading glasses and bow-tie, I was engaged in a rather raucous game of bitey-face with Floyd!

Now, to the biggest issue of all... Intelligence... How dare they! My human is always telling me I'm a clever little boy! How could she be wrong?!

She wouldn't be telling me fibs... Would she?

She's not inflating my ego... Is she?

I AM a clever little boy... Aren't I?

Wait, wait wait! What am I saying?! Of cause she isn't! Of course I'm clever! I'm a Scottie!

We, as all you other Scotts out there know, are all excessively bright and the best at everything we ever try our paws at, ever!!

How could I ever doubt myself, and let a silly little website tell me anything different!!

PeeS: Happy half birthday to me, I'm 6 months old today!

  5. Obviously, this website does not know Scotties OR terriers AT ALL! To even to start to say ANY pup in the terrier family is of 'low intelligence' is the most absurd thing I have ever heard! The person who thought this algorithm up, is the moron.
Anyhu, HAPPY, HAPPY BRTHDAY!!! I say have your Moms give ya some ice cream!!

  6. The one I'd like to keep is the lifespan one. We're losing too many friends when they reach double digits (and I'm 10).

  7. Oh Dougall, Dougall, Dougall, I am truly bemused by this. 'Lowest intelligence'?? Well, for starters, that is very poor grammar so I think that's something we should point out to the author of that little article - and low activity? Now, I'm very confused - I may not be a Scottie but well, Westies aren't really that far removed and low activity would NOT describe me!!! And you are certainly one bright dog so let's just ignore that article altogether!

    Woof.

  8. Dougall, Happy Half Birthday to you my sweet and very intelligent pal. That description was obviously written by a squirrel or possibly a jealous possom. How dare they suggest "lowest intelligence" I fear to think how they would describe a shih tzu. Dougall please pay no mind to these idiot ramblings. Your true pals know you for what you are, a perfectly wonderful and beautiful Scottie.

    Loveys Sasha

p.s. I was also surprised about the grooming, I am thinking there is more than low maintenance there also as there is with me.

  11. One time mommy filled out one of those stupid things and it said she should get a Japanese Spitz, but she got me instead :) Those things are never true, Dougy buddy, besides, you're one of the smartest dogs I know!:)

  12. Who makes these quizzes? I don't think there are ever any "dumb" dogs - just ignorant owners. You look very smart (and quite dashing in your get up) - so don't pay attention to that website. I don't like blanket labels anyway - every bird, dog, cat, human is unique and has their/its own unique personality. And happy 1/2 birthday! I thought only Fonzie celebrated half birthdays! ;)

    1. Well, I thought, us doggies don't have as many whole birthdays as humans. We should be allowed to celebrate the half ones as well!
