Floyd's (very) brief adventure...

Well Floyd has been up to a wee little bit of mischief...

It happened yesterday, my human was sitting on the lounge watching TV and eating some nuts. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a familiar silhouette run past the front window...

Yup. It was Floyd.

She yelled out for the other human and they both rushed outside. Floyd was out there galloping around... Well, sort of like a bit of a nut case. It reminded my human of a birthday card one of her friends had received once, it said "Party like somebody left the gate open". That was exactly what Floyd was doing. He was having a whale of a time, galloping up and down the street, across the road, sniffing everything, generally enjoying himself.

The humans on the other hand, were very, very worried. Our street is generally pretty quiet, but you never know when someone will drive past, and they were frightened that Floyd would rush out in front of a car.
They kept calling his name, trying to get him to come, but, well... He never really got that command at dog school, he would turn and look at them, but then run off in another direction. I think he thought it was a super fun game or something...

Eventually my human ran across the street after him and managed to grab hold of his collar, and started to lead him back toward home. The only problem was... In her rush to get Floyd, she hadn't put on any shoes, and didn't notice the prickle patch...

After she'd dragged Floyd back inside, and picked the prickles out of her feet, they were both outside, checking the fence and the gate, trying to figure out how he'd gotten outside when they heard a "bang" and a "crash" and Floyd was galloping out the front door... That's how he got out, he's figured out that he's big enough to throw himself at the front screen door to escape...

Luckily they were right there that time, and quickly caught him, took him inside and shut the big-solid-wood door...

My brother, the gangly, goofy escape artist...

  1. I don't know what to say. Your peeps are good and I think Floyd needs to think it through. I was an unknown quantity (so were my peeps) and have never bolted from my peeps that I rescued.

  4. Wow, he certainly wanted (and got) an adventure! :-) Glad that your humans were able to catch him without getting too hurt! I'm pretty bad at recall too, so I get where Floyd is coming from!

  5. Oh, my! Floyd is one very lucky boy not to have been hurt, isn't he? I have to admit that I'm not always that great at recall either - it depends on what else is distracting me - and I'm two!

The only time I got away from Dad when we were out, a neighbour's dog scared me and Dad dropped my lead! I ran away from him, but luckily for me I galloped along the grass verge then stopped and waited when I got to our front gate! Mum was very relieved when we got home and Dad told her what had happened, because, I'm afraid, we greyhounds don't generally have much road sense...

I'm glad that Floyd is OK, and I hope your human's feet have recovered now, too...

  9. Floyd, that was a scary story, you need to be careful my sweet pal. I like to run also, but I have a bad habit of chasing cars, so Mommy is pretty strict with my leash. I am glad you are safe.

  12. Oh Floydie, you should be careful next time. It's very important that you keep yourself safe. Next time, resort to begging for treats rather than running out of the door, okay?

  17. I'm so glad it turned out okay, except for the no shoes part! :-) But it's my worst fear, because I think that if Todd ever got out our gate, we'd never see him again.....

  18. wow, i'm sure it seems like a fun idea to escape and run around, but it gives mom and dad a big scare! I'm glad everyone got home again with no problem. My dog Kelly has escaped from the yard a few times and she loves leading me on a merry chase. Brooks, on the other hand, only wants to be beside us and won't take off even if all the doors and gates are left open.
