Oscar's Law

Last week I found out about a rally in Sydney which was going to tell peoples about puppy factories. Floyd and I would have loved to have gone, but Sydney is just too far away from where we live.

So, we decided to donate some monies to the peoples organising the rally, "Oscars Law". We were saving our pocket money up to buy  a really, really big bone, but we think this is MUCH more important. We also bought ourselves these bandanas. They say "I want Oscar's Law".

Who is Oscar you say?

Oscar is a doggy who was rescued from a puppy factory, he was in a terrible state. His coat was matted, he had ear and gum infections and rotten teeth. When poor Oscar's matted furs were shaved away it showed his poor skinny little body was covered in abscesses from grass seeds, his skin was like tissue paper.

Why do some humans think that it is okay to treat our kind like this? Don't all doggies deserve the love and attention that Floyd and I are so lucky to get from our humans?

Isn't there something that we can do to help the puppers trapped in puppy factories?

There is! The more we bark (or talk) about the problem, the more we tell other doggies and peoples about it then maybe government will be forced to act, and get rid of puppy factories.

The people at Oscar's Law are trying:
  • To abolish factory farming of companion animals
  • Bans the sales of companion animals from pet shops/online trading sites
  • Promote adoption through rescue groups/pounds/shelters
If you would like more information about the campaign, or would like to know how you can help please visit the Oscar's Law website. (If you live in Australia you can even email the government people to ask them to do something!).

  5. Having worked in rescue for more than 10 years, and helped with rescuing them here, I continue to cheer those on who are making a difference for these pups that don't have a voice so that they have that chance at a wonderful life!!

  7. Good luck with the government. Bureaucracies are the same all over the world. Until we dogs get the right to vote, we don't have much power.

  8. We definitely support Oscars Law, and we keep shouting and shouting here about the horrors of puppy farming, Susie-Belle knows ALL about that subject. Great post to raise awareness, we need to keep shouting, one day the world will be a better place, one day :)

  10. Yes, I've read about this. I abhor puppy farms. I know people here in our country are beginning to sell puppies online who aren't tested for hereditary diseases and such. You go, Dougall and Floydie!

  13. In the U.S. we call puppy factories "puppy mills" and both are just horrid! The reason why people run these mills is because of greed. The more money they make the better they feel and the dogs suffer because of them. So sad. I'm glad you are doing something about this situation!
