Walkie Woes

A while back I shared a video of my "bunny hop" walking technique and my peep's plan to buy Floyd and I Easy Walk "no pull" harnesses. They arrived a few weeks ago and we have been using them for a while.

Floyd used to pull on the leash a lot, and I mean a LOT, he used to actually walk on his back legs he pulled so much! He used to drag the peeps along, he was having a great time but the peeps HATED it!

The Easy Walk has made a HUGE difference for him. Now he walks on all his feet with a LOOSE leash! Yes, you read correctly a LOOSE leash!! The peeps enjoy walkies so much more now, which means we get to go on more of them! (Which makes us happy too!)

How did it work out for me you ask? Do I still hop like a bunny?

Well, to start with my peeps thought they had found the answer to my their problems, like Floyd I stopped pulling, and hopping and we were all able to enjoy leisurely walks.

I thought I had put my walkie woes behind me...

All was going well until this week, when my peep was doing the usual post walk burr removal and noticed that my harness had been rubbing under my belly near my legs and that I had sore marks where it had taken off some of my furs!!

She wasn't happy and I certainly wasn't! For the last couple of walks we switched back to my old back-attach harness. We've been on two walks with it and she had forgotten how BAD the pulling was... And how much she didn't enjoy walkies... Oh dear...

So, as soon as we got home last night, she jumped online and had a look around for other alternatives.
She found this interesting looking harness, the Sporn Mesh No Pull Harness.
For us it ticks the big boxes, it discourages pulling and is designed for comfort.
But it also has one more he big thing that really sold it,  the "sherpa sleeves" that cover the cords that go under the belly and around the legs, to stop rubbing!

So, hopefully it will be here next week, and we'll be able to tell you all about it!!

  1. I walk with Him mostly with no leash. Other peeps thought He was crazy-especially with a terrier but I've gone leashless with Him since I was a pup. He trusts me and I stay close and come when called. I've never been to obedience school and I do it only with Him. Go figure.

  2. We hope that works. Roxy does have one of those harnesses, but she was able to wriggle out of it when she got really excited. Now she has a martingale collar...though she does still pull sometimes.

    XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy

We wouldn't have to pull if humans would just quicken up!

  3. We've had great luck with the Easy Walk Harness on Goldens, and am sorry that it's not the best for you, but the new harness really looks like it just may do the trick!

I hope you're doing well, and I hope you enjoy your weekend too!

  4. Oh Dougall, I can't wait to hear how this works for you! Sorry abouts the bare fur spots, that sucks. Butts hopefully this will work, please keep my Ma updated, she's trying to find a good harness. She bought one last week ~ OMD! I pulled her arm out of her socket!!!! She wasn't too happy, I'll tell ya! It was back to the 'slip harness', which is good, but it falls to my side, and rubs a little.

    Kisses,
    Ruby

  5. Poor Dougall. Poor Peeps. We had to put Mr. Fox is in the prong collar. It is the only, and I do mean only, thing that works for him. I've spent a fortune on these things only have it either not work or him twist his way out of it. Sigh.... I put the prong collar on my arm and yanked. It doesn't really hurt. Truly. It is just shocking. I have a tad bit of guilt. Husband is against it but he never walks the dogs so his opinion doesn't count. I hope your boo boos heal soon and your walks are good too.

  6. Ouchy Dougall, I do hope the new one gives you relief. In the mean time can you pretend you are really hurt and maybe get some cookies and ice cream for sympathy. Good luck,

  8. HOwdy Dougall and Floyd, mum used an "Easy Walk" harness for our angel brother Brucey and it worked a treat. It was like yours and connected to the lead at the front of the chest. Does the new harness do the same? Mum tried another harness that the lead connected on top of the shoulders and that didn't work at all. Sorry about getting your furs worn off mate. Good luck with the new lead. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  9. We'll be anxious to see if the Sporn works for you. Mom says that the only thing that works for us is the prong collar. We drag her like a team of draft horses with anything else.

    Love ya lots,

  10. We look forward to hearing your thoughts. I pull the peeps like a mad thing. I am no longer allowed to walk down 'Pussy Cat Alley' as peeps would only have one arm. Luckily the park is at the top of our road so peeps puts up with it. We hope all is good next week. Have a super Saturday.
    Best wishes Molly

  12. Make sure you let us know if it's any good and where to get it. As you know I have the easy - walk harness and my mum has often worried that it might not be the most comfy in my armpit areas.

  13. Don't these pawrents know it is fun to pull? OK, maybe the breathing part is rough but the rest of it is fun. Hope the new one helps!

  14. You poor thing !!!
We really hope your next harness will be better !

We wear harness too but when we do it means we are allowed to pull (we're half husky) so it would be very confusing for us to wear a harness like yours...

Link has pulling issues on leash too so our humans bought him an head collar and it's great !!!

    Woos of love.
