Close Call

The other day I had a close call... I saw my life flash before my eyes... It was scary for me, and my peep... Let me tell you what happened...

You see, Floyd and I love our Dentastix.

This is me asking for a Dentastix

Have you ever had them?

The peeps like to give them to us because we love the taste, and they clean our teefers.

Any way... The other day the peeps gave us our Dentastix like normal, and I thought that I'd try to eat mine as fast as I could... I love them so much that I try to wolf mine down as quick as I can, so that I can sneak up on Floyd and try to nab his. I eat mine heaps faster than him, cos I have HUGE scottie teefs, and his teefs are itty bitty!

And well... I forgot to do one impawtant thing... I forgots to CHEW my stix... Yup, I tried to swallow it in ONE go...

Lucky the peeps were watching me.... She noticed I was struggling, that I was jumping from one foot to the other, and trying to paw at my mouth. She freaked out, and thought the Dentastix might have got stuck in my mouth. He put his fingers in my mouth and tried to pull it out... But couldn't find it!! He was just about to try sticking his fingers in my throat, when I managed to cough it up all by myself.... Yup, I coughed up a WHOLE stick, I hadn't even chewed it at all...

It was pretty scary... But it turned out okay in the end. The peeps don't know what to do now... Should they still give me Dentastix? What if I choke on them again? Has anything like that ever happened to you?

  1. That is scary. We haven't had any chew thingys because SHE was always having to pull one out of Dui's throat. You might have to get the BIG ones...so you'll chew....AND you'll get more!

  2. How very scary! Mom always worries when we chew on those kind of things. She throws them away when they get little. Sure glad you coughed it up

  3. And this is exactly the reason that we don't get rawhide or Greenies. Once we eat something too fast and scare our mom - no more of that for us! She says there are too many great choices so why be risky. Thank doG you're okay, Dougall! We know how scary something like this can be!

    Love ya lots♥

  6. OMD OMD OMD We are not allowed to have THAT brand of teefs cleaner thingys beclaws we BOTH had bad experiences with THOSE.... NOT as Bad as YOUR experience butt we have Choked on them and have Pooked Up CHUNKS of them.... We are only allowed to have either Greenies, or Natural Balance, or
Blue Buffalo kinds... No problems with any of those three.

  7. Well Dougall since they are suppose to clean your teeth and help with your breath I would say swallowing whole the purpose of those things is defeated. When you chew your esophagus appreciates you.
    Thanks for being a friend

  10. I agree with Bella, Roxy, and Dui, gets bigger ones so you can't swallow them! then agains, if that happened to me, they would be banned for life! (Ma's a wussy! BOL)

  11. Dougall, you have to told by a bird-you have to be smart about this. First, don't wolf it down, you know the results. Second, in the future, hide yours. Then go after Floyd's. Plan ahead and you'll get both. Dougall-2, Floyd-nothing.

  12. Dougall, you've got to slow down and chew it so you can taste it. Maybe your mum can break yours in half so you won't choke or give all yours to Floyd until you can learn to chew yours. BOL that would really get your Scottie temper going, right.

    Aroo to you,

  13. Crikey Dougall ..... you're as bad as our Harri. Mum hates those dentastix things. She reckons there's something dastardly in 'em that makes 'em addictive to dogs. She used to give them to Our Harri because she thought they would be good for him. He LOVED 'em and really looked forward to having his every night. He too choked on one. Not as bad as you but nearly. Mum never gave him another one and I've NEVER had one. I have to have my teeth brushed. YUK!! I'd rather have a denta stix but I s'pose it's for my own good, aye??

  14. *clears throat* Barking from experience, I (Wally) am also a lover of Dentastix and eating fast and I have also been known to forget to chew. I have however never swallowed an entire chew in one go. We had a little family discussion regarding your issue and we have the following thoughts: 1) perhaps your mom could cut your chew up into 2 or even 3 smaller pieces; 2) we know she already does, butt maybe just remind mom to always watch you when you're eating your Dentastix, just in case and c) ask your mom to find out if they maybe have a slightly bigger Dentastix size (WIN...MORE for you!!) that you can't swallow whole.

    Remember to chew buddy!

  15. Howdy Dougall. We like them too but eat them too quick so mum thinks they are wasted on us. Mum says could you eat them in seperate rooms so you don't have to hurry so much. No worries and love Stella and Rory

  16. that would of been scary - there are lots of suggestions here for how to deal with the issue - maybe a bigger size stick would help too

  17. My peeps brush my teeth because I also like to eat fast and gulp my food.
If you do not chew then the treat is not doing the job and cleaning your big teeth.

  20. Oh no! What a scary situation. Glad you're OK. We tried something similar to these with Heather once (she has killer doggie breath!) but she tries to eat them in one bite, too, so we stopped. The overtreater still stops by with some from time to time and we just keep careful watch over both Heather and Mr. K as they enjoy their special treat. Much love, The Scottie Mom.
