Checking in...

Hi guys, I wanted you to all know that me and mine are all okay. That we aren't in any danger. There aren't any serious fires near where I live, although some small grass fires were started tonight by a lightning storm (heat waves and lightning don't mix).

Somepawdy asked if I could show you where I live in relation to the fires, so here you go.

The little green spot is sort of where I live, in Wagga Wagga (say: wOgga wOgga).

Tasmania is still in a bad way, and there has been a lot of destruction. At least 100 homes have been destroyed, the town of Dunalley lost 65 properties alone.

This is a photo showing the view last night from Hobart (the capital city of Tasmania)

A very scary scene.

I am glad all I have to worry about is the heat. That nopawdy I love is in danger. I feel bad for those who had lost their homes, but I am glad that nopawdy has died.

Here are some pics of Floyd and I staying out of the heat (to lighten the mood)...

I don't think Floyd is really getting the finer arts of keeping cool, personally I don't this a WOOLLEN blanket is cool... Tiles on the other paw...

  3. We are THRILLED that you are SAFE.
Mom just had an email from our furend Barb who lives in Manilla, NSW. She was telling us that the neighbor lady had to put ICE in the COLD water ONLY Bath for her little girl... because the COLD Water is soooo hot that in had to be COOLED enough Not to burn the little one.
Barb mentioned all the Fires in Tasmania and Mom told her about YOU TWO and that you had shown us pics on the map. AND said that it was to be 117 at your place. Barb says this is the hottest summer she has EVER experienced. Barb also said that YOUR area is where most of the fruit for your peeps is grown and that it is too hot for the produce to grow properly.
SO dear furends... as we said yesterday.. think COOL POOL and PLEASE be SAFE. We feel your pain.

    1. That is some hot water! Are they on tank or town water? The water out of our tap is the normal temp... Thank dog!

It was horrible yesterday, but a bit (a LITTLE) bit cooler today. Doesn't look like there is going to be a break in the heat for a week... :/

Where we live the farmers mostly grown crops of wheat and canola, or have sheep or cows. They do group fruit at places between here and when the Down Under girls live though, I'm not sure how they're fairing...

We have been keeping cool in the house or under the house... As best we can...

  4. Neither of you is doing the right thing. When it gets hot here (and it can get hot in Arizona), find a doorway in the house that is between two rooms where one is tile and one is carpeted. Lie down so your head is on the nice soft carpet and the body on the cool tile. If you can't get a spot like that, take Floyd's blanket and use it as a soft pillow with your bodies on the tile-share the blanket.

  5. Oh my, we are so glad you are all OK in Wagga Wagga. BOL place to own dogs, hey? We hope everybody is safe. We think of you as we suffer more rain and with 2012 being the wettest on record. Take care, stay cool and chillax. We send good vibes and love to all those who have suffered and pray for all the rest to be OK. Have a super Saturday. Fingers and paws crossed for those in Tasmania.
    Best wishes Molly

  6. Hey Dougall, we're just glad you are okay. We hope the fires don't reach anyone. I know how sad it is to lose something- may it be a loved one or a home.

  7. We are so far out of it! Didn't know about the fires. We are still at camp. We brought the toys you gave us BUT we were not allowed to bring the TREATS...bah! We're having the high temps while SHE's having unseasonably cold weather in San Antonio!

    XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy

Keep cool and glad the fires aren't near you. Looks like they're not near us either.

Yeah, I thinks you have the right idea Dougall...tile floors are the bestest way to stay cool...maybe you should clue Floydie in on it...

  9. Wowee, that photo in Tasmania is gorgeous (if it was photoshoped) but really scary since it's real! :-/ I'm super happy that you guys aren't anywhere near the fires! Keep as cool as possible and tiles are way cooler than wool blankets!

  14. Dear Dougall and Floyd - thank you so much for letting us know you are both safe and well with your family. That is very good to know. My Mum and Dad have family in or around Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane, and thankfully they are all OK too. We have been watching the news of the fires on TV - it is very bad, and very scary. Please keep cool and safe.

Hugs and woofs from Solo in New Zealand. :-)

  15. Glad you are all ok Dougall! With regards to keeping cool... how can I say this tactfully... terriers are the smarter breed, hence you on the tile and Floyd on the blankie. What can I say? I'm biased! And I do have a non-terrier too!

  17. Howdy Dougal and Floyd, glad to hear you are all ok. We've got more heat today (41C) and are pretty nervous cause we live in the Adelaide Hills and it's a bit scarey. Take care mate. Lets hope we have a bit of cool weather soon. The fires in Tassie have been terrible haven't they.
No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  19. Hi Dougall and Floyd!
Thank doG you guys are far from those fires. Mama used to live adjacent to the high fire danger parts of Los Angeles so she remembers how frightening it all was... Anyhow, enough of scaring each other. Glad to see you guys are keeping cool - okay, Floydie not so much but you sure got the idea, Dougall! :)
    Happy 2013!
