Safe and Well

I'm here to tell you all that me, my peeps and their family are all safe and well at this point.

Today was just as scary as the peeps on the TV said it was going to be. They say there's still between 100 and 150 fires burning in New South Wales, 30 of those uncontrolled (some of these close to towns).

It was really hot and very windy today and by this afternoon our area was upgraded from a warning level of extreme to catastrophic.

We live in area 16
During the day there were around 5 or 6 out of control fires burning around Wagga Wagga. The worst near the a village called Tarcutta where they only had 20 minutes to evacuate before they were cut off and told it was no longer safe to leave their homes. (This fire is still burning, but it is a little less scary).

Some of my peeps friends were evacuated from their farm at another village called Culcairn because of another fire. (This fire is not an emergency any more)

My peep's Dad was sent an emergency warning text message at 3 this afternoon because of a fire even closer at Wocolena. (This fire is not an emergency any more)

These three fires were some of worst in the state. It was really scary and very smokey all day. My peep was so worried that we might need to evacuate at one point. But thankfully everything turned out okay for us.

Nanny-Penny is okay, there is a fire not far from where she lives, but it is burning away from her, so she is safe.

Even after all this scariness, the wonderful "Firies" (what Aussies call fire fighters) have done and absolutely PAWSOME job!
It's 9pm and so far, even though hundreds of hectares of farming land has been destroyed only ONE house has been lost (at this point) in New South Wales. Sadly, many farm animals and native animals have been lost.

My peep and I can't say how much admiration we have for the firies, many of them volunteers. They are the best peeps there is I reckon.

Any way, I might leave it here for now. I wish everypawdy still facing hardship and danger the best.

PEES: My peep might be very busy for the next few days, so I might be a little absent for a while. Please don't worry.

  3. Dougall Floyd and Peeps. We are glad you are safe and so sorry to hear how bad it is. We think of those who have suffered and the animals. We wish we could send you all our blooming rain. It seems so unfair. We have so much and you have none. Our paws are crossed for you. Do give us a pup-date if you can even it is one line. We will be worrying about you. Saying a prayer that the winds die down and don't fan the flames anymore. Take care & stay safe.
    Best wishes Molly

  8. We should send you some of our "firies" because they don't have much to do right now. We've seen the orange glow at night and breathed the smoke also. Scary stuff.

  19. Dougall, thank you for the update. We have been sadly absent the past few weeks (all Her fault, not mine) but we have been very worried about what is going on over there. It has been roasting hot where we live but thankfully, there have been no fires but we have been very very worried for all the four legged and two legged ones 'over East'. We feel so much for all those poor two legged ones who have lost so much and the four legged ones who have been lost. And the firies are true heroes. We will continue to keep you all in our thoughts and hope to goodness that this all ends very soon.
