Nope, I don't think it's because somedoggy has been talking about me...
I have an ear infection.
Yup, another one.
It's the third one this year... (let's not mention the ones I had last year...)
The peep has no idea how I got this one, the others were from playing in my pool, or having a bath. Unless I got it from the rain the other week?
The dogtor is running out of options... He says I might need an operation... Or, I might go deaf...
Have any of you, my dear Blogging furends ever had ear issues? How did you over come them? Do you have any ideas that might save me the pain of surgery (and the peeps the pain of paying for it?)
-----
Oh, incase you were wondering, Floyd has made a full recovery, back to his usual self, pushing me around (*sigh*) and being a general goober...
Oh Heavens! Dougal, my furiend, that sounds bad. We do hope that they are able to figure something out to save your ears without resorting to surgery :( I'm afraid we do have any experience with this pawticular problem, as I have never had ear troubles. We will be sending you lot of love and light!

P.S. So happy to hear that Floydie is all better!
Bella has been shaking her ears, but we have some anti-biotic stuff, which she hates, and she gets a dose at the first flap. We think it's because of her Rock Game at the river....so we're always on the lookout. We hope this is just a little problem and you don't need surgery!!! We'll keep our paws crossed.
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Bella & Roxy
Oh noes Dougall, I hope it's not serious enough for surgery:-(
ReplyDeleteps. I have something for you on my bloggy today:-) http://themisadventuresofmisaki.wordpress.com/2014/04/25/yoo-hoo-award/
DeleteOH NOOOOOoooooo Dougall... we are so sorry. THAT is NO FUN.
ReplyDeleteWe are GLAD to hear that Floydie is back to being FLOYDIE... THAT is super good news.
Hope your ears get better soon and that you do NOT have to have an operation. POTP fur you buddy.
OMD…. an ear-fection! Da horror. I had one when I was a pup and mom grabbed me each day to put drops in my ears and then cotton to clean dem out. I hated da whole procedure. To dis day I still don't like having my ears messed wiff. I don't know what to say but surgery should kinda drastic.
ReplyDeleteI'll ask my other Scottie buddies (on Facebook) if dey have any ideas.
Wags,
Ranger
My peep's other scottie used to get ear infections a lot. It ended up being her allergies. She would get her ears cleaned out with this blue medicine that would help dry them up and a half of an allergy tab when needed. Good luck! Do you cry a little when you scratch it? I am so sorry you have an ear infection!

Oh Dougall, I too have the ear thing. I take an allergy med often (Benadryl, or diphenhydramine). I have no side effects from it, so it's no problem for me (thou some pups gets all sleepy, I don't! much to the shagrin of my Ma!) It works for the most part, butts I've heard of many peeps cleanin' out their pups ears daily (the horrors! bol)
ReplyDeleteI hopes you can figure out what is causin' the allergies (is it allergies?), or whatever is causin' them. I hopes you don't have to have the surgery, that wouldn't be fun at all!!! I wish I could be more help. Most vets say that the most common reason for allergies in doggies is the food. Have your peeps tried switchin' your food? Maybe a raw diet? They have dehydrated raw foods now that are convenient and easy.
Good luck!! And I'm keepin' my paws crossed and sendin' you a margarita..hehehe
Oh Floydie, I sure am glads your paw is doin' betters!! I have been all worried abouts you!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
I'm going to post tomorrow about my hearing problems. It must be a different cause than yours-I'm too young at almost 12 to have hearing problems.
ReplyDeleteOh no, we hope your ear gets better soon

Dougall, when I go to the fur stealers she says it is very important that anytime you get water in or around your ears to make sure dry them out with either a cotton ball or towel. Mom uses a towel and she gets way down in my ear to dry it out, despite my protest. In the past with other pups, she has used mineral oil to help with ear issues. I hope you don't have to have surgery. Mom's human child when she was little had to get tubes put in her ears due to allergies causing infections in her ears. Do you have allergies it might be something to check into.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully
Super sorry. Hope it feels better soon
ReplyDeleteMy BFF Finley used to have ear infections - they were becuz of her allergees.
ReplyDeleteHowdy Dougall, sorry about your ear trouble mate. Suppose it's better than rear trouble! Sorry, we shouldn't joke about it but we were trying to cheer you up! Our cousin Tyler the lab always has ear trouble and he doesn't even swim or stuffs to get his ears wet. The vet says most probably allergy but he had antibiotic drops and now gets stuff squirted in his ear when he starts to shake his head. He hates it. Our sissy hasn't tried allergy tablets yet but it sounds like a good idea maybe. Hope you get some help before it needs surgery mate. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
ReplyDeleteOh no Dougall. I use to have manky ears when I was young but I grew out of it. I hope someone has some good ideas for you. We send healing vibes and POTP.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Glad Floyd is back to normal but sorry to hear about you. Sending hugs!
ReplyDeleteOh no - this is not good, Dougall! We've never had ear infections so we can't add any advice at all. We're glad to hear that Floyd is back but we're worried about you. We're sending you lots of AireZen and paws are crossed that they find a cure so you don't need surgery!
ReplyDeleteLove ya lots♥
Mitch and Molly
I hope Floyd is not drooling in your ears. My aunts other scottie had ear problems but it was because of allergies. The vet gave her drops for her ears and changed her food which helped a lot. Make sure furstealer dries the ears also.
ReplyDeleteGood luck I hope you do not have surgery. You might check with other vets for second opinion before doing surgery. Sending prayers.
Bentley
Gee, we have no insight on this at all but we hope you find a good answer!
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
PS - Murphy has a new Facebook Page to replace his timeline that the Facebook Police vaporized. He is at: https://www.facebook.com/murphyandstanley
Mom uses some special stuff from the vet in our ears each week. It seems to keep us out of ear trouble. We don't like it when she squirts it into our ears, but it is better than an operation.
ReplyDeleteI am glad Floyd is better, but I am sorry that you have an ear infection. I also get lots of ear infections and I hate hate hate the drops, Mommy has to chase me. I hope yours gets better real soon.
ReplyDeleteLoveys Sasha
Oh Dougall, how frustrating and painful. Our (human) boy gets them every year, about six a year, and they are pushing tubes on us. Maybe doggy tubes? :-) Feel better! Glad Floyd is better!
ReplyDeleteMy dog Ace had lots of ear infections when he was younger. I don't know if they were from his food (allergy) or from playing in the water. But, these days he doesn't seem to get them and he still plays in the water but he's on a different food. So, if you haven't tried ruling out a food allergy, that might be a place to start.
ReplyDeleteHope your ears feel better soon.
