Summer's nearly here...

It's funny to think about how far way some of you are, when I read your blogs you seem so close here in Blogville. I've noticed a lot of you posting pics of autumn leaves, snugly beds and warm jackets.

While on my side of the world summer is nearly here, and it is well and truly warming up. Yesterday was REALLY hot. The peeps said it was 35 degrees Celsius today!  (that's about 95 Fahrenheit).

Because it was so hot we waited till really late to go for a walk, when it had cooled down a little. It wasn't a long walk 'cos I got too excited and made myself sickie, oops... So the peeps decided to take the short route home. When we got in I found the coolest spot in the house... Right in front of the fan!
Gotta love the feel of wind in your woozle...
While on the walk I encountered another sign that summer is nearly here...

Burrs!! GrrRRRrrr!
These ones were stuck in my skirt and...

These she had to cut out. They'd worked themselves right, deep between the pads on my poor little feeties.

Even though the burrs are here, and it's getting really hot, it's just the beginning of summer, it's meant to get even hotter!!

What do you do to keep cool in the warmer months?

  1. Dougall Buddy, go get them to by a kiddie wading pool and fill it up and keep it clecn. We got one this year it's gret to drink cause the water is about 8 inches deep and stays cool. When it' sreally hot, we get in and set down for a bit, then go lay is a shady spot were the breeze is blowing. As mom says Man that's tha cats meow!!

  2. Lots of ice! That's the key! Plus fans, and a/c. And a wading pool too like Susie and Sidebite. Gosh, I am glad our summer is finally over and we don't have to think about it for a few months at least. Stay chilly!

  3. Urg! Man, I can't believe that you are just starting summer Dougall! It's going to be in the mid-80's today (weird Fall fluke) but I can't imagine it in the 90's! Make sure you spend lots of time in front of that fan of yours and have lots of nummy frozen yogurt! Oh and stay away from those nasty burrs!

  5. Those burrs...we know them well! Seems like we attract them even when we stay on the footpath or street.

We had to wait until nearly 7 p.m. before we could have our bones outside last night. Hopefully, it'll be cooler tomorrow and rain.

We're going to try yoghurt treats this year. Usually, we just hibernate in the A/c.

Hope you've got your bets in for the Cup!

  6. Dougall you got to be joking what Summer over here. It was one of the worst on record. But when it has been hot in the past ice cubes in the water bowl and cold damp towel on the floor to lie on. It is getting cold now here so we too find it funny when you say it is getting hot. Have a lovely Monday.
    Best wishes Molly

  7. I have a swimming pool in the back yard but I hate water. I get frozen treats and like the air conditioning.

    I LOVE winter though!

  11. I know you don't like those burrs but they bring back fond memories of my Scottie growing up. Poor guy always got burrs in his fur.

  12. Hiya Dooougs! I've just got back from the Outback - don't talk to me about heat and burrs!!! Give me nice air-conditioning anytime (and a nice fresh fur-cut) that helps me to stay cooler!

I think this summer is going to be a beauty!

  13. Glad your Momma got those burrs out. Enjoy the summer. Finn hates the heat, she lays on the tile in our bathroom as much as possible. We try to give her ice cubes and she bobs for them in her water bowl.

  15. Hi Dougal, boy are you lucky to have the warm weather. We've had snow in parts of the UK as we're just getting into our winter months. Noticed there's a lot of talk about being given iced water or ice cubes, so we thought we'd share this with you. It's something we posted on our Big Brother Blog some time ago (Scottie Dog News), but we keep reblogging each summer, and as it's summer for you guys, perhaps you should just take a look - it might never happen, but it's worth being aware of, and we don't mean to scare anyone, sorry! http://www.dogforums.com/general-dog-forum/54641-beware-giving-ice-water.html

    2. YIKES! I chew ice cubes along my walks in the summertime here at home. (I also lay down belly first on the air conditioning vents in the kitchen when I get home from a short walk in the heat.)

      Stay cool you guys!

  17. We've noticed the exact same thing Dougall - all the autumn leave pictures and mugs of hot chocolate that are being posted on Pinterest and other places...and all we want is a cool drink and some shade!

It's been pretty hot here too the past couple of days - also around 35 degrees C. Mom has taken to putting 2 big water bowls out for us and makes sure we have plenty of shade. We have asked Father Christmas for a little Scottie pool for Christmas so we can wade in it on hot days. Mom says things are looking good for us, seeing as we've been very good boys this year *BOL*

Stay cool & try not to get too excited on your walk tonight!

  19. We had a very hot summer here in Colorado. We give both our Scotties a short "field cut" haircut, which helps with the heat and the burrs.

  21. Howdy Dougall, we've found the same thing. Stella hates the prickles she picks up in her furs. We keep cool by eating ice blocks our sissy makes for us. She puts them in our water bowl. Keep cool little mate and slobbers to Floyd too. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  22. Oh boy. Summer. Boy. I'm glad Ours is done. It was so hot, you could fry an egg on the sidewalk. Really. Or bake cookies on the dashboard of your car.

Better stay there in front of the fan. That's why Scotties are so smart!

  26. Well, Dougall, I know how you feel - in my part of 'Down Under' the burrs have also arrived and for some reason, they are particularly sticky this year (I had 20 in my head the other day!). And of course, the flies will be here soon - we have already had those big horrible blow flies (which I LOVE to chase so they do have one good purpose!!) buzzing around - I would prefer to be over the other side of the world where those autumn leaves are falling!!

Oh, by the way, have you seen the really cool bandanas you can buy for the hot weather? My two legged ones put mine in the freezer (it has some 'magic' gel stuff in it - like the ice bricks for the esky) over the Summer and then we go out for our evening walk, I wear it and it keeps me nice and cool!

  27. Dougall you look so cute sitting in front of the fan. I like to do that also when I am hot. It feels good. I hate those burr thingys, they are mean. I hope you don't find any more and keep cool, while I keep warm.

  28. Aww, it's getting hot here too... but I guess that's because where in the equator and the room we're currently staying at is the hot room. LOL.

Good spot. I love that spot too. Now, if only someone could figure out how to make a self power generating mini-fan. That'd be nice!

  30. Dougall (and Floyd)

We got our bone shaped ice trays from iheartdog.com.au We THINK they're in WA, but we got excellent service. Our usual pet shops and online shops didn't have them. Anyway, we didn't check to see if there are others. We bought two of the large trays....SHE thought the little ones would be too fiddly.
